Born on August 7, 1963, into a revered family of astrologers in Bira Balabhadrapur Sasan village near Puri, Odisha, Pandit Sanjay Rath grew up immersed in an unbroken paramparā that traces its roots directly to the 16th-century saint and seer Śrī Achyutānanda Dāsa.  As one of the illustrious Pañchasakhā (five spiritual companions) of Śrī Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,  Achyutānanda Prabhu's profound contributions to esoteric knowledge—including Jyotiṣa—continue to guide authentic practitioners today.

In his family, astrology was never an abstract study but a sacred, living tradition passed down through generations. His grandfather, the late Pandit Jagannath Rath, earned the prestigious title Jyotiṣa Ratna of Orissa and authored several influential works on the subject.  Pandit Sanjay Rath received his earliest training under the guidance of family elders, including his uncle, the late Pandit Kasinath Rath, beginning at a remarkably young age. This immersion in the ancient guru-śiṣya system—rooted in oral transmission, disciplined practice, and direct initiation—has given him rare mastery over intricate systems such as the Jaimini Sūtras, Parāśara principles, advanced predictive techniques, and remedial measures that remain inaccessible without proper lineage.

Beyond his hereditary training, Pandit Sanjay Rath pursued a modern education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Government of India, showcasing an unusual fusion of technical precision and timeless spiritual insight.  Yet his true calling remained Jyotiṣa.  Eventually, he left his administrative career to dedicate himself entirely to teaching, research, mentoring sincere students and continuing the unbroken oral transmission of Jyotiṣa across continents.
